Skincare is a highly personal and evolving regimen. What I apply on a nightly basis is totally dependent upon what my skin needs at the moment. Listed below are the products I use nightly, with some products applied on alternating nights throughout the week. I have very sensitive, dry skin that is prone to redness, irritation and occasional breakouts. I have been using ‘actives’, both OTC and prescription strength for over 20 years, so I pretty much know what my skin needs as well as what to back off from.
- Cleanse & Apply Essence. Taking the day’s makeup and grime off my skin without stripping my skin barrier seems to be one of my biggest challenges since I have sensitive skin. I either use this gentle Round Lab cream cleanser or I use this ELEMIS Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Wash to get stubborn makeup off that evening. I follow my cleanse with SKII Treatment Essence. I use this product religiously day and night and can tell a huge difference in my skin when I stop using it.
- Serum. I always use IS Clinical Active Serum. Both morning and night. Again, another product like the essence above, that I use on a daily basis.
- Actives. I have been using prescription strength Tretinoin .1% for over 20 years. It is the single most effective product that keeps my skin in check. I would strongly recommend any one reading this post visit their dermatologist and discuss this cream with them. I use Tretinoin 4-5 days per week at night. When I do apply this medication, I follow-up with a good serum moisturizer that is either KohGenDo All In One Moisture Gel Rich or Augustinus Bader Rich Cream. I find that the Tretinoin can dry my skin barrier so its best to follow up with good hydration. On the nights when I do not use Tretinoin, I use an active that is either Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid or Elizabeth Arden Retinol Plus HPR Ceramide Rapid Skin Cream in place of the Tretinoin. I have used both of these products for years and find they work well with my skin. In fact, whenever I run out of my Tretinoin, I use the Elizabeth Arden Retinol Plus Ceramide Rapid Skin Cream as a viable alternative.
- Eye Cream. Lately I have been sticking with Sisley Paris Sisleya L’Integral Anti-Age Eye and Lip Contour Cream for my eye area. Its crazy expensive and I purchased it on a great promotion at Christmas. Because of the price, I only use it for my eye area. It is one of those rare products that does not irritate my eyes nor does it give me those little white bumps in my under eye region following use. I can’t say enough good things about this product and will be repurchasing this again after I run out.
- Lips: Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask in Gummy Bear. For daytime, I carry around the convenient Lip Balm in a Tube in my purse for easy application.
My daytime routine is far more streamlined. I’ll post that soon. I will be 63 the 1st week in June of 2026. This picture was taken today, bare faced (lip gloss only). I am still working on the redness. I am a work in progress 🙂
