Real-Life Mid-sized Sézane Review: The Keepers, Sizing, and What’s Going Back

Let’s talk wardrobe staples. As we get older, our style priorities shift. Personally, my shopping checklist has become non-negotiable: I want to hide my arms, I need something comfortable enough for a big dinner that won’t squeeze my “food baby,” I demand a length that is not too short, and I actively avoid anything that focuses on my mid-section.

At this stage in life, we want pieces that look effortless, accommodate changing bodies, and offer a real return on our investment. Today, I’m breaking down my latest Sézane purchase—including the exact sizing tweaks I made to hit all those comfort goals, and the one piece that just wasn’t worth it.

👗 The Camila Dress: Why I Sized Up Twice

At first glance, you might think the Camila Dress ($145) is just a basic navy t-shirt dress. But as we know, finding a true navy is nearly impossible—it usually arrives looking either washed-out or completely black.

Sézane nailed this color; it is a rich, true navy. What I love most about building a collection here is that Sézane’s navy blue pieces are completely consistent in their saturation from season to season, meaning I can effortlessly mix and match new items with pieces I bought years ago.

  • The Fabric: 97% Organic Cotton and 3% Elastane. It has just enough stretch to feel comfortable without losing its shape.
  • The Fit Secret: This is a slim-fitting silhouette. Sézane suggests sizing up if you are between sizes, but I actually went up two full sizes. Sézane’s short dresses run quite short. By sizing up two sizes, I got the perfect, age-appropriate length (for reference I am 5″6″ tall or 167cm). Plus, the extra room means it lightly skims over the stomach rather than clinging to a post-dinner ‘food baby’  ;-).
  • How to Style It: This is the ultimate “grab-and-go” piece. Throw on a denim jacket—which gives you that perfect extra arm coverage—and white sneakers for running errands. You can also elevate it with cute sandals and a silk scarf tied loosely as a belt for dinner.

👔 The Max Shirt (Summer Stripes): A Busty Girl’s Best Friend

If you struggle with the dreaded button-down “gaping chest” look, listen closely. I am a 36H bra size, and finding a button-down that fits without pulling is a wardrobe miracle. The Max Shirt is that miracle.

  • The Fit: It features a beautifully draped, comfortably oversized cut. If you prefer a more tailored silhouette, size down by one. Personally, I buy my regular size because the drape completely disguises the mid-section while looking incredibly chic.
  • The Coverage: Because it’s a boyfriend-style button-down, it offers full, relaxed arm coverage without feeling restrictive or heavy.
  • The Verdict: Absolute keeper. It is an all-season staple that looks instantly elevated, whether tucked into trousers or worn loosely over a tank.

🩳 The Kurt Shorts: Why They Are Going Back

I really wanted to love these ($120), but they are headed straight back to the warehouse.

  • The Fit: They actually fit true to size. Normally, I size up in Sézane bottoms to accommodate my hourglass curves, but these fit fine in my usual size.
  • The Problem: When paired with the matching shirt, the look leaned a bit too much into “pajama set” territory.
  • The Value: At $120, the cost-per-wear just isn’t there. They are strictly a summer item and don’t mix well with the rest of my wardrobe. At this stage, I’d rather invest my money where it counts.

🌸 The Pippa Short Dress (Herodie Print): An Effortless Icon

I am a total Pippa Dress convert; I already own several. The moment I saw this stunning Herodie Print ($150), it went straight into my cart.

  • The Fit Strategy: This dress is inherently very fitted, so I ordered two sizes up. Sizing up is the ultimate secret weapon for larger bust accommodation, as it gives me the crucial extra room I need across my 36H chest without completely swallowing the rest of my frame.
  • Why It Works for the Mid-Section: It features a genius side-tie that allows you to customize the fit perfectly. Because you went up in size for your bust, you can use the tie to cinch the fabric exactly where you want it or keep it loose so it skims right over your mid-section. It is incredibly forgiving when you go out to eat, washes beautifully, retains its shape, and doesn’t shrink.
  • The Verdict: This silhouette defines effortless dressing. It allows you to look entirely put-together during the hot summer months without spending a single second overthinking your outfit or worrying about your silhouette.

Sézane Summer Purchase Review: Smart Sizing for Effortless Over-40 Style

This honest Sézane haul review breaks down exactly how to navigate the brand’s unique sizing to achieve a chic, comfortable look that accommodates a larger bust (36H), provides strategic upper-arm coverage, and completely disguises a post-dinner “food baby.” By strategically sizing up two full sizes in the ultra-forgiving, side-tied Pippa Dress and the perfectly saturated, multi-season Camila Navy Dress, you can easily secure an age-appropriate length and a relaxed fit that skims right over the midsection. While the wonderfully oversized Max Shirt proves to be an absolute all-season miracle staple for bustier women by preventing the dreaded button-down gaping, the $120 Kurt Shorts ultimately miss the mark due to their steep price point, limited versatility, and pajama-like appearance when worn as a set.
