My Evolving Morning Skincare Routine (Age 63)

My daily AM skincare is a pared down version of my nightly routine. What I apply in the morning on a given day depends entirely on what my skin needs at the moment. I have very sensitive, dry skin prone to redness, irritation, and occasional breakouts. Having used over-the-counter and prescription “actives” for over 20 years, I know exactly when to push my skin and when to back off. Here is my current morning lineup for maintaining a healthy skin barrier.
Step 1: Cleanse & Prep
Awakening my skin in the early morning without stripping my skin barrier is my biggest challenge.
-
- AM Cleanse: Round Lab Cream Cleanser (for gentle mornings
- Essence: SK-II Facial Treatment Essence. I use this religiously day and night; my skin noticeably suffers without it. This Essence balances my skin following cleansing and I use it in place of a toner.
Step 2: Base Serum plus Daily Serum
-
- The Staple: iS Clinical Active Serum. Applied every single morning and night to keep my skin clear and texture consistent. Non negotiable.
- The Hardworker: BIOEFFECT EGF Serum | Epidermal Growth Factor. Applied every single morning for fine lines and firmness.
Step 3: Sunscreen & Moisture (Daily)
I protect my skin with a combination sunscreen and moisturizer product that avoids irritation while maximizing anti-aging benefits.
-
- Daily:
-
- Sunscreen + Hydration. iS CLINICAL Moisturizing Complex, Face Moisturizer, Anti Blemish and Anti Aging Moisturizer, Hydrating Formula. This is a great bang for your buck in that you can combine 2 products into one.
- Follow-up Firming Pre-makeup base: Sisley Paris Double Tenseur Instant & Long-Term – 30 mL – Makeup Primer for Face to prepare my skin for my foundation so my makeup stays put all day. This stuff has a cult following and for a good reason, it preps your skin for the most beautiful foolproof makeup application imaginable.
- Reapply Throughout the day: ROUND LAB Birch Juice Moisturizing Sun Stick Broad Spectrum SPF 50+, 0.67oz, Sunscreen Stick – I keep this handy in my purse and reapply over my makeup throughout the day as needed. It is a great sunscreen that works well, does not leave a sticky or white cast and does not interfere with with my existing makeup.
